Introduction


If you want to do your own installation of CentOS on your Linux VPS, you can get the official installation image from CentOS mirrors. In the following tutorial, we’re going to show you how to install CentOS 6.4 from the network on your VPS yourself (NetInstall).

 

How to install CentOS 6.x with Netinstall on your VPS


  1. Go to your control panel at panel.velocihost.net
  2. Login with your VPS control panel credentials
  3. Identify your VPS and click on “Manage”
  4. Go to Settings tab.
  5. On Boot Order from the drop down menu select “(1) CDROM (2) Hard Disk” and click “Set”.
  6. Go to CDRom tab.
  7. Select choose the CentOS 6.4 netinstall image corresponding to the architecture you need, and click on “Mount”.
  8. Go to General tab and click “Reboot” to restart your VPS with the new changes.
  9. Once your VPS is online Click on VNC button and use the graphical interface to follow the steps indicated.
  10. Select “Install or upgrade an existing system”.
  11. On Disk Found you can skip the disk test clicking “Skip”.
  12. On Installation Method choose URL and click “OK”.
  13. On Configure TCP/IP, under Enable IPv4 support, select Manual configuration and click “OK”.
  14. Under URL Setup enter the current CentOS mirrors. Up to the date of this tutorial are:
    • For 32 bit systems: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/6/os/i386/
    • For 64 bits systems: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/6/os/x86_64/
  15. Click “OK”.

 

The installation procedure will retrieve the install image and present the progress bar, just wait.

 

  1. Once the installation image has been downloaded, you will be presented with the graphical CentOS setup screen, select “Next”.
  2. On Select your language, pick the one of your choice and click “Next”.
  3. Now Select your keyboard layout and click “Next”.
  4. On Select Storage Devices select “Basic Storage Devices” and click “Next”.
  5. Now Select your desired hostname and configure your network settings.
  6. Input your assigned IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, the IP address 8.8.8.8 for DNS, make sure to select the auto initiation check and click “Next”.
  7. Choose your desired time zone and click “Next.
  8. Now Set your root user password and click “Next”.
  9. On Select Type of Installation select “Use All Space” and click “Next”.
  10. When asked to write storage configuration to disk click on “Write Changes to Disk”.
  11. On configure Boot Loader, make sure “install boot loader on /dev/sda” is selected and click “Next”
  12. Now you can choose the custom package to install. We recommend installing the “Minimal” setup and then customize as needed. Select “Next”.

 

The actual installation will start. Just wait until it finishes and then click “Reboot” when asked.
