Introduction

If you have deployed your Virtual Private Server (VPS) with Microsoft Windows Server as the operating system you will notice that Windows does not loads the network controller's drivers by default.

In order to gain internet connectivity you have two options:

  1. Install the Intel(R) PRO/1000 network connection drivers, or;
  2. Install VirtIO network controller drivers. For reference on how to install this controller see this guide.

In this tutorial we'll guide you on how to install the Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection as this Ethernet controller provides a better overall reliability for MS Windows systems.

  1. Go to the VPS Control Panel.
  2. Login with your Control Panel credentials.
  3. On the next screen you will be presented with a list of your current active servers. Select the one you need to modify by clicking on the "Manage" button.
  4. Now, you should see your server's details and the possible management functions and settings. Under the Settings tab you need to select Intel PRO/1000 for the Network Card.
  5. Then, click on the Reinstall button.
  6. You will be taken to the operating system selection list. Choose your desired version of Windows Server and click the Reinstall button on the bottom.

Your VPS should take a few minutes to re-provision the operating system. Once it has finished loading the VPS, you should be able to setup your Server through VNC and verify that internet connectivity is fully operational.
